Getting married in Romania, the land of castles

Romania is one of the few places in Europe where a castle wedding still feels like a discovery rather than a queue. The mountains sit behind everything, and the countryside between the castles is as photogenic as the buildings themselves.
We live and work here, so this is what we tell couples who ask us about marrying in Transylvania.
The castles couples ask about
Bran Castle is the name everyone knows, perched above the village with the Carpathians behind it. Peles, near Sinaia, is the more ornate of the two, all carved wood and painted rooms.
Both are working visitor attractions, so anything you plan there needs to be arranged directly with the castle in advance. Confirm access, timing and photography permissions in writing before you commit to a date.
Do not overlook the countryside
Some of the most beautiful weddings we photograph in Romania happen in fortified Saxon villages, old manor estates and mountain meadows a short drive from the famous names. Fewer visitors, more freedom, and light that runs long across the hills.
When to marry here
Late spring brings green hills and long evenings. September and early October bring warm colour in the forests and calmer weather than high summer. Winter is possible and can be extraordinary, though mountain roads need a plan.
Practical notes for guests travelling in
- Bucharest and Cluj are the easiest arrival airports for most European guests.
- Brasov is a natural base for weddings around Bran, and worth a night either side.
- Roads through the mountains are slower than the map suggests, so build buffer into transfer times.
Common questions
Can you legally marry at Bran Castle?
Legal formalities in Romania are handled at a civil registry office, so most couples complete the paperwork separately and hold the ceremony they want at the venue.
Do you photograph weddings across Transylvania?
Yes. Romania is home for us, and we photograph across the country as well as the rest of Europe.
We photograph a limited number of weddings each year across Europe. Tell us about your day and we will send you a tailored proposal.
